Full Study Title:
EORTC-ESTRO RADiotherapy InfrAstrucTure for Europe
Research Summary:

This study aims to collect information from people with cancer who are receivingĀ standard radiotherapyĀ as part of their normal treatment. By gathering this ā€œreal‑worldā€ data, researchers hope to improve radiotherapy in the future and better understand how it helps patients.

Radiotherapy is an important treatment for many cancers. In the last ten years, the way radiotherapy is given has changed a lot, with new techniques and technologies being introduced quickly. However, these changes are not always fully tested in large clinical trials, and many trials do not include certain groups of patients—for example, older people or those with other health conditions.

This study helps fill those gaps.

What information will be collected?

The study will bring together different types of information, such as:

  • details about the cancer and the treatment you receive
  • images from your scans (such as CT or MRI)
  • information from your radiotherapy planning and treatment sessions
  • your quality‑of‑life questionnaires
  • health economic information (for example, how treatments affect healthcare use)

Together, this helps researchers understand how radiotherapy is working for people in real‑life situations.

How the study is organised

The study is made up of smaller projects calledĀ ā€œcohortsā€.
Each cohort will have its own focus, and patients may be invited to join the cohort that matches their type of cancer or treatment.

The information collected may be used to:

  • understand patterns of care and what influences treatment results
  • study how cancers behave and respond to radiotherapy
  • help create standards for new radiotherapy techniques
  • provide evidence about the safety and effectiveness of new technologies
  • improve the overall quality of radiotherapy delivered in Europe
  • understand how treatment impacts daily life and quality of life
  • look at the financial impact of radiotherapy on the healthcare system

Who can take part?

  • PatientsĀ aged 12 and overĀ receiving radiotherapy for cancer
  • People treated in the UK and in several other countries
  • There isĀ no limitĀ to the number of patients who can take part
  • The study will stay open as long as it remains scientifically important, ethical, andĀ practical

Each cohort may have its own specific eligibility criteria. For ReCare specifically this is based around patient undergoing re-irradiation to a previous treatment site where there may be notes around toxicity of overlapping treatment fields.

Patients joining this study will be asked to provide someĀ Quality of LifeĀ data gathered by the research team viaĀ questionnaires. By consenting to the study, patient will be allowing certain aspects of their clinical and treatment data to beĀ collected and anonymisedĀ for research purposes.Ā
